SS 317 is an improved version of other stainless steel alloys with molybdenum alloy buildup. This is done to increase strength and improve pitting resistance. SS 317 alloy plate has good toughness and temperature strength. Stainless steel 317 on the other hand, is a lower carbon version of the 317 grade alloy with the same corrosion resistance and strength. They all have high breaking stress and higher tensile strength. Cold working is performed on stainless steel 317/317L, which can be annealed in the temperature range of 1850 F and 2050 F.

1D -- The surface has discontinuous granular shape, also known as fog surface.
Processing technology: hot rolling + annealing shot peening pickling + cold rolling + annealing pickling.
2D - A slightly silvery white colour.
Processing technology: hot rolling + annealing shot peening pickling + cold rolling + annealing pickling.
2B -- Silver white with better gloss and flatness than a 2D surface.
Processing technology: hot rolling + annealing shot peening pickling + cold rolling + annealing pickling + quenching and tempering rolling.
Ba - Excellent surface gloss, high reflectivity, like a mirror surface.

No.3 -- Good gloss, coarse grain surface.
