Stainless Steel Strip 2304

Alloy 2304 is a duplex stainless steel composed of 23% chromium and 4% nickel.

The corrosion resistance of 2304 alloy is similar to that of 316L.
In addition, its mechanical properties, namely yield strength, are twice that of the 304L/316L austenite grade.
This feature allows designers to reduce the weight of products, especially pressure vessels, when designing products.
This alloy is particularly suited to the temperature range of -50°C /+300°C (-58°F/572°F).
It can also be used at lower temperatures under strict restrictions (especially for welded structures).
Compared with 304 and 316 austenite, 2304 alloy has stronger stress corrosion resistance due to its dual phase microstructure, lower nickel content and higher chromium content.

2304 stainless steel applications in the oil and gas industry;
Offshore shitaitian oil platform (heat exchanger pipe, water treatment and water supply system, fire protection system, sprinkler system, water stabilization system;
Petrochemical equipment;
Desalination (desalination) equipment (and the high-pressure pipe and seawater pipe in the equipment);
Mechanical and structural components requiring both high strength and high corrosion resistance;
Burning (waste) gas purification equipment.
Main ingredients: 25Cr-7Ni-4Mo-0.27N

The chemical composition analysis of 2304 is ideal after solution annealing treatment at 950°/1050°C(1742°/1922°F) to obtain the microstructure of 50α / 50γ.
The microstructure of 2304 is more stable than that of the duplex stainless steel containing molybdenum.
Intermetallic phases do not appear until 10 hours of placement in the temperature range of 750°/850°C (1382°/1562°F).
After heat treatment in the 350°/500°C (662°/932°F) range, the copper element in 2304 alloy increases the hardness of the steel.
Hot forming
Hot forming must be performed in the temperature range of 1150/900°C(2100/1650°F).
After forming, solution annealing treatment is recommended in the temperature range of 950°/1050°C(2100°/1650°F) to restore the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
Care must be taken during heating to avoid creep of the product.
Cold forming
Cold forming of 2304 alloy is not difficult.
The 304L and 316L cold forming equipment is also suitable for the 2304.
Due to its high mechanical properties, including yield strength, high pressure is required during cold forming.
Finally, the solution annealing treatment is recommended to restore the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, which is the same as hot forming.
derusting
The solution and paste used are the same as 304L/316L.
Due to its corrosion resistance, pickling time is slightly longer than the austenite grade.
machinability
When drilling,2304 duplex stainless steel shows stronger machinability.
Its performance is comparable to 316LEZ*.
In addition,2304 corrosion resistance and cleanliness is stronger.
The local corrosion resistance is also improved.
